Preparation
Can you make egg drop soup ahead of time?
This soup is best served fresh but it can also be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to reheat. Heat on the stovetop or in the microwave.
What method works best for creating egg ribbons in egg drop soup?
The key to making those beautiful egg ribbons is to stir slowly and gently while drizzling in the eggs. Getting the broth mixture spinning too quickly won’t give you the desired result.
Can I use ground ginger instead of grated ginger?
Yes, however ground ginger is more concentrated than grated ginger so you’ll want to use less. We recommend using ⅛ tsp of ground ginger in place of ½ tsp of grated ginger.
Storage and leftovers
How long does egg drop soup last?
Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Make sure to store in an airtight container. Reheat using the stove or microwave.
Can you freeze egg drop soup?
We don’t recommend freezing the leftovers of this soup. When reheated, the eggs will become a rubbery texture. If you want to freeze egg drop soup, freeze just the broth mixture and when reheating, drop in the eggs.
Tips, tricks, and frequently asked questions

✅ This recipe is gluten free as written! Always make sure to double check your ingredients.
✅ To make this recipe vegetarian, swap the chicken broth for vegetable broth.
